Like this giant jigsaw game.
It's true, as a keyboard player the controls can be better but honestly it is a nice puzzle game. It feels difficult which I really like but not impossible or annoying. It takes some time (in a good way) to figure out how to assemble it, like which part is which and what do I want to focus on (at least for me without using the active powers). It just really feels like a jigsaw puzzle to me and I love that. The map seems really nicely done with many little details that help you figure out what goes where, but subtly and making sense. The thing I dislike the most is not being able to do the top part when I want, I have to unlock something else which I still don't have. You can kinda do the very top except the corners because of the stairs going down. I think you should be able to do the top part even if not super smoothly, and the power when you get it just makes it even nicer to work up there. It just doesn't feel very good imo. TLDR. I'm enjoying it. Feels like a jigsaw puzzle. The map you assemble seems very nice. It's very chill. Needs a bit of work to make controls feels smoother.
I wanted to like this SOOOO bad. But I worked at it for 20 minutes and was unable to place a SINGLE piece. I play these games to relax and this was stressful. I had the game refunded. Hope the devs can fix it because this is such a good idea!
Finish the map in around 11 hrs, alright game idea, but the controls are annoying to use. putting pieces on the top part of the board is abysmal to do, also some on the pieces where outside "had to use the thing at end", but if you have the patience to do a very large puzzle. it okay. if the game get some Qol and controls fixes and achievements add then maybe I will change this review.
A jigsaw where you can't connect two adjacent pieces on their own.... I was so excited to have little piles of different colors, matching them up, then bringing them to the big board... but you literally just have to put down pieces one by one? And the "magic" skills just ruin the fun. I honestly was disappointed to see any kind of reference, as the "cartography" aspect sounded mysterious and unique. Being able to see the map on the board for a couple seconds at a time with a skill just ruined any kind of challenge and turned into a waiting game. Would have been so much cooler to use the environment to maybe make it a tower where you survey the land and use that as a reference to build the map out, or something. This is just crippled jigsaw and it's unsatisfying. Super sad as I love clean up/satisfying games.
Seemed like it would be a good mix of sortslop and jigsaw, but it doesn't really satisfy either end. The game is buggy and drops frames randomly, the controllers are stiff and uncomfortable, and the design of both the level and the map you're putting together are bare and somewhat uninteresting. It's impossible to place pieces properly at the top of the "map due to lack of reach, which according to one message in the discussion forums becomes possible eventually just by continuing to sort pieces at the bottom (you might get a skill to jump or float or just reach further, I wouldn't know). These sort of sorting games usually gate some movement behind some item you can find on the map, and this one does that for running and increasing carry capacity, so I wonder why not follow that pattern for whatever skill you need to reach the top of the map? After all, a lot of jigsaws can be most easily started by doing the outer frame first, and this choice in gameplay flow makes it so you can't do that. You can only lump pieces together somewhere nearby and wait until you can actually place them. All in all, even when a sortslop is subpar I can usually find myself playing it for 3+ hours. This game, I barely could stick to over an hour, and a lot of that time was not satisfying, I stuck to it due to stubbornness. Sadly cannot recommend in its current state.
Being on Steam Deck and trying to make the controls work is painful
Its far to hard to complete the top of the picture as the pieces wont reach to fit into place. Other than that I was enjoying the game just a shame its impossible to place all the pieces.
With the current state of the game, I can't give it a good review despite how much I like the concept and similar games. The action for placing a piece was very confusing to figure out and had stumped me for a full few minutes. But the big thing for me was that you are basically unable to reach the topmost row of the map. I was told that apparently there was an ability that would later help with this, but it instantly put a halt to my enjoyment. Because of these things and the fact that there hasn't been an update or word from the developer, I refunded.
Interesting idea, but the controls are awful. It took ages just to put two pieces in place. I'm going to request a refund, as I'm finding this unplayable at the moment. Shame, I'd looked forward to it.
This game is perfect to play while listening to music or a podcast. The magic skills are quite helpful but I highly recommend trying to play without using most of them. Very rewarding when you place the pieces without skills. Highly recommend this game! EDIT: Noticed a few comments mentioning they couldn't reach the top of the map, but I unlocked the Hover skill quite quickly.
After a couple of hours play, I thought I would give a little update. I have unlocked jump and hover (which means I can reach the top of the map, YAY). Having collected the pieces for the top I was able to put in pieces quickly which is very satifying. I have unlocked skills and making combos is the best part! I can see there are others having trouble with the controls, which did take me a bit to get used to but I can also see the developer has made update to the controls and I am excited to try those. Still enjoying. Goal is to do a no magic run. I am early on in the game but so far I love it! Building a giant jigsaw, finding pieces and sorting them out, cleaning up the room! Cannot wait to finish the entire map! Well done.
